Heading into Tuesday’s MLS Expansion Draft, it was anyone’s guess as to who expansion sides Atlanta United and Minnesota United would select with their five picks. One name that seemed to pick up traction was Ken Tribbett.
As the two technical staff’s deliberated over each and every pick, it became more and more obvious that the Union would be able to hold on to the players that they left unprotected. Ten MLS clubs lost players today, the Union not being one of them.
To recap the draft, here is how it all went down:
- Atlanta United - Donny Toia, D (Montreal Impact)
- Minnesota United - Chris Duvall, D (New York Red Bulls)
- Atlanta United - Zach Lloyd, D (FC Dallas)
- Minnesota United - Collen Warner, MF (Houston Dynamo)
- Atlanta United - Clint Irwin, GK (Toronto FC)
- Minnesota United - Mohamed Saied, MF (Columbus Crew SC)
- Atlanta United - Mikey Ambrose, D (Orlando City SC)
- Minnesota United - Jeff Attinella, GK (Real Salt Lake)
- Atlanta United - Alec Kann, GK (Sporting Kansas City)
- Minnesota United - Femi Hollinger-Janzen, F (New England Revolution)
Defense was clearly a trend in Tuesday’s MLS Expansion Draft.
