Orlando City win guarantees Champions League berth for the Philadelphia Union

Regardless of the result on Sunday, the Philadelphia Union will be in the Concacaf Champions League next season for the first time.

Orlando City’s 2-1 win over Columbus Crew on Wednesday night eliminated the Crew from the Supporters’ Shield race. The Union are guaranteed the Supporters’ Shield with a win over New England Revolution on Sunday. They would need help from other games if they drop points.

The Union are guaranteed a Champions League berth because Toronto FC can’t qualify through MLS competition and the Portland Timbers have already qualified for Champions League by winning the MLS is Back Tournament.
