Major League Soccer announced on Thursday that they will be one of the first soccer organizations worldwide to participate in International Football Association Board's (IFAB) Video Assistant Referee project.
MLS joins several other leagues, including Bundesliga and the Hyundai A-League in Australia, in their endeavors to assist referees with video throughout matches. All leagues who are interested in participating in the project are now beginning plans for testing.
MLS, PRO, and USL are preparing to begin their trial period this summer during selected USL matches. These trial periods are estimated to last two years, with a decision from IFAB coming in 2018 or 2019.
