Jones may get Union nod at third center midfielder

One of the interesting decisions for Union coach Jim Curtin when his team opens its eighth Major League Soccer season on Sunday in Vancouver is who to start as the third center midfielder.

While Alejandro Bedoya and newcomer Haris Medunjanin are two of the team's top players and will be in the lineup, the competition for the third spot is likely between Warren Creavalle and homegrown player Derrick Jones, who turns 20 on Friday.

It appears that Jones has the inside track since Creavalle, who started 21 games last season, has been nursing a groin injury. Last year, Jones played 26 games for the Union's United Soccer League affiliate, the Bethlehem Steel.
