With Andre Blake out on international duty, the Philadelphia Union had a decision to make. Would it be John McCarthy or Matt Jones in net for the Union?
The Union were in a similar situation back in June when Blake was with the Reggae Boyz during the Copa America Centenario tournament. In that instance, Matt Jones got the start in what would be a 3-2 victory for the Union over Columbus Crew SC. This time is different.
“John McCarthy will be the starter,” Jim Curtin announced during his press conference on Wednesday. And when asked if there would be any risk involved with starting McCarthy, Curtin replied confidently.
