The defender played two years of college soccer at Clemson University in South Carolina where he was a second-team All-American. After that, he spent 13 years in Europe that included stops at England's Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and Sheffield Wednesday, and two years each at Sporting CP and Italian giant AC Milan.
Onyewu has appeared for the Senior U.S. National Team 69 times and scored six goals.
