The Fine Line of the Final Pass
As we look back on New York Red Bull and D.C. United we are once again reminded that the margins to earn a positive result are very small. Our ability to create scoring chances many times hinges on our ability to execute the final pass. The final pass is one of the more difficult plays in soccer to get right. It typically requires the combination of a well-timed run and a properly weighted pass in behind the defenders. When successful, it can be unsettling to the opponent, causing them to turn and face their own goal, chase the attackers, and make them vulnerable as they try and defend their penalty area.
