FINAL WHISTLE: Sapong’s strong performance

A fourth straight MLS win for the Union was truly a team performance. CJ Sapong had a goal and an assist, but it took strong play from the defense to keep DC United off the board as they made a push to tie the game early in the second half.

DC wanted the middle and the Union didn’t give it to them

United’s wingers constantly flooded the center in the first half, dropping between the lines from the outside to produce extra men in the middle. At times, it worked: The Union fullbacks got drawn in and then DC switched fields to open their own fullbacks who had pushed high on the wings.
