A questionable hand ball on Richie Marquez lead to a penalty kick that Luciano Acosta converted in the 27th minute. The start of the second half brought on a substitution for the Union as 2017 fourth round draft pick Jack Elliot made his MLS debut, as there was a concussion scare for Marquez.
