Academy kicks off DA Cup slate with pair of wins

In their first foray into the newly created DA Cup, Philadelphia Union’s academy sides produced mixed results against New England Revolution. Bethlehem Steel players Selmir Miscic and Shanyder Borgelin suited up for the U18/19s — with Miscic scoring late — while Brandan Craig got the lone goal in a shutout win for the U16/17s. Three first half goals gave the U15s a cushion as they saw out a 3-1 victory.

Chris Brewer, head coach of the U15s, noted the strong qualities of the opponent and pointed to his side’s quick start as a key to their success. Overall, he saw an uneven performance that typifies preseason matches as teams find their form and learn the instincts of their teammates.
