Union goalkeeper John McCarthy has plenty of friends in the area, but one special friendship all started with an impromptu haircut.
Last season, McCarthy became aware of a local family who reached out to the Union when their young daughter, Cameron was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. Looking for a way to help out, McCarthy noticed he and the family shared the same last name and decided to surprise the family with a visit.
“I said why don’t I just go down there and visit her, and things just took off from there. The first time I met her, she shaved my head – we’ve been best friends ever since.
