Another key moment for the Union was the match immediately following CJ Sapong's hat-trick, which was when the Boys in Blue scored four goals at DC United for the most lopsided win against DC United and the worst shutout against the Union in DC history.
The night featured a bunch of firsts, as Haris Medunjanin, Oguchi Onyewu and Fafa Picault all scored their first career MLS goals in the match. Medunjanin's was a world-class knuckler which fooled United goalkeeper Bill Hamid, while Onyewu's came on his 35th birthday with friends and family in attendance.
Picault made it 3-0 when he utilized his speed and ripped a long-range shot from outside the 18-yard box.
