Zack Wheeler undergoes procedure to remove blood clot

The Phillies provided the following medical update on Zack Wheeler prior to Monday’s game against the Seattle Mariners:

Right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler underwent a successful thrombolysis procedure to remove a blood clot in his right upper extremity this morning by Dr. Paul DiMuzio at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Further treatment and a subsequent timeline of recovery for Wheeler is to be determined.

The Phillies pitcher was placed on the 15-day injured list on Saturday with a right upper extremity blood clot. Wheeler last pitched on Aug. 15 against the Nationals in D.
