Wounded Officer Proposes To Girlfriend During Phillies Opening Day Ceremony

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia police officer who was shot and wounded during an ambush in January in West Philadelphia made the most of his moment in the limelight Monday before the Phillies home opener.

The Opening Day crowd at Citizens Bank Park roared as officer Jesse Hartnett threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

But then came the surprise.

The officer whose left arm was shattered by three bullets in January got down on one knee near the third base line and asked his girlfriend Lily to marry him. The cheers got louder, but Hartnett’s focus was on the answer.
