At this point, why even pitch to Kyle Schwarber?
The Phillies designated hitter hit his 17th home run of the season in a 7-4 win over the Colorado Rockies. That home run came against a left-handed reliever. If that story sounds familiar, it’s because it is.
Of his 17 home runs, seven have come against left-handed relief pitchers. Against southpaws, Schwarber has a 1.250 OPS. His OPS against righties is .815. Maybe there is no right answer here.
When accounting for his success against lefties last year and the tear he is on this year, it may be time for opposing managers to start adjusting their plan of attack against Schwarber.
