PHILADELPHIA – The Phillies have had a fog machine in the home clubhouse since 2022, the year where everything changed. It sits in one of Zack Wheeler’s lockers. It was upgraded a year later. Smoke fills the room. It sometimes sneaks into the hallway after big wins.
The visibility was nearly zero as reporters walked into the clubhouse 20 minutes after the final out. Only the silhouette of Saturday’s starter Cristopher Sánchez could be seen as he sat at his locker. He laughed.
“Welcome to the Philly party,” Sánchez said.
A lot has been made about what this Phillies season has felt like.
