PHILADELPHIA — Bryson Stott, the Phillies’ leadoff batter known for his contact ability and tough at-bats, hit his longest home run of the season on Saturday night in a series-clinching victory for Philadelphia.
Stott went 2-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored as the Phillies downed the Pirates, 5-2, at Citizens Bank Park. Starter Zack Wheeler came out firing, touching 98.8 mph with his fastball and averaging 96.6 with the pitch in six shutout innings to take the team’s second straight win over Pittsburgh.
After Kyle Schwarber put the Phillies (27-18) ahead in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double to right field, Stott began Philadelphia’s half of the third with a no-doubt blast to right-center.
