Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred has ruled that permanent ineligibility ends when a player passes away. Therefore, Pete Rose has been reinstated, and is eligible to be considered for election to the National Baseball Hall of Fame as early as December 2027.
Rose, who died on Sept. 30, 2024, has been reinstated alongside “Shoeless” Joe Jackson and other members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox team associated with the “Black Sox Scandal.”
Rose was banned from the sport in 1989 after an investigation found that he placed numerous bets on the Cincinnati Reds as a player and manager from 1985-87.
