Bullpen blowups are always the toughest way to lose a game. When victory is seemingly given away rather than snatched by the opposition, it hurts quite a bit more. The team does their job and one player has trouble in the most important spot on the field.
We are enlightened folk and know that bullpens can be volatile. It’s going to happen from time to time, but it’s weird. When a bullpen as good as the Phillies’ version has been for as long as they’ve been, blowups like what Jose Alvarado did can be surprising.
It shouldn’t define the bullpen.
