After all the years of losing, of having to endure the likes of Delmon Young, Laynce Nix, Reid Brignac, Tony Gwynn, Jr., Brian Bogusevic, and Chase d’Arnaud flailing away at pitches with reckless abandon, the Phillies have missed out on a player that we had prepared ourselves for getting. While we will probably never know the details that went into these prolonged negotiations, there is nothing more to say - they tried and failed. Manny Machado, the one who appeared to be perfectly suited to the lineup, is going to play somewhere else.
