PHILADELPHIA — The most important season of Ranger Suárez’s career begins soon.
Suárez is scheduled to be activated off the injured list and start for the Phillies on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s a month behind due to a back injury.
The Phillies lefty, who has been in the organization since 2012 and on the major league team since 2018, is scheduled to become a free agent after this season. The stakes are high. He can parlay a strong five-month stretch into a monster payday. Another injury, or underperformance, could lead to Suárez having to settle for a prove-it deal.
