Ranger Suárez adds to postseason lore with incredible performance out of the bullpen: ‘Guy’s got ice in his veins’

LOS ANGELES — David Robertson remembers it. He walked off the mound in the ninth inning of Game 5 of the 2022 National League Championship Series with two on after back-to-back walks. The angst inside Citizens Bank Park grew as the crowd wondered who could possibly emerge from the bullpen to save the day. Nobody wanted to get on the flight back to San Diego for Game 6.

“I was out of gas,” Robertson said.

Then, Mr. Rager played, and Ranger Suárez was on his way out of the bullpen. The crowd exploded and after an ill-advised bunt and a fly ball to right, the Phillies were National League champions.
