The Phillies are shopping for high-leverage relief pitching this week ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline. One potential fit and target is now off limits.
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Emmanuel Clase has been placed on non-disciplinary leave by Major League Baseball as it continues to conduct a sports gambling investigation. Clase will remain on a paid leave through Aug. 31, MLB announced on Monday. He’s the second Guardians pitcher to be tied to the investigation, joining Luis Ortiz, who was placed on the same type of leave by MLB on July 3.
Clase owns a 3.23 ERA this year with 24 saves and a league-leading 41 games finished in 48 appearances.
