One of the worst feelings in baseball is wasting a dominant pitching performance. The Phillies did just that to Jesús Luzardo.
Drake Baldwin hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth and the Atlanta Braves (62-75) edged the Phillies (79-58) by a final score of 3-1 on Sunday Night Baseball at Citizens Bank Park.
Tied at 1-1, the Phillies trusted José Alvarado with throwing a clean inning and giving the offense a chance to walk the game off in the bottom of the ninth. Alvarado allowed a leadoff single to Jake Fraley before later allowing the two-run homer to the rookie Baldwin on the first pitch of the at-bat.
