Phillies to bring up Garrett Stubbs when rosters expand

The Phillies will promote catcher Garrett Stubbs to the majors once rosters expand from 26 to 28 on Sept. 1, president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski announced on Sunday night.

Stubbs, 32, has spent the entire year with Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Rafael Marchan, who was out of minor league options, won the backup catcher’s job out of spring training. Stubbs, who had one option remaining, was sent to the minor leagues. He batted .265 with a .753 OPS in 309 plate appearances for Triple-A Leigh Valley in 2025.

He’ll join the Phillies in Milwaukee on Monday.

“He’s been a winner,” Dombrowski said.
