Phillies take local prospect in MLB draft: ‘I’m sure the whole community is super energized’

Logan Dawson didn’t have to travel far when the Phillies brought him in for a workout at Citizens Bank Park last week ahead of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft. Then on Monday, the shortstop out of Eastern High School in Voorhees, N.J., had his name called in the 16th round.

It was only fitting for Philadelphia to be the club that took him.

“It’s just a surreal feeling,” Dawson said shortly after he was taken with the No. 491 overall pick by his hometown team. “It feels like everything is finally paying off. And even though this is a place to get to and a small step in the journey, I just can’t think of a better opportunity and a better situation than the guys in Philly.
