Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber hits 50th home run of season

PHILADELPHIA — Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber hit his 50th home run of the season on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park, becoming just the second player in franchise history to reach the 50-homer mark.

Stepping to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning against Mets pitcher Justin Hagenman, Schwarber hit a cutter over the outer part of the plate and sent it 110.4 mph off the bat for a three-run home run. His milestone shot went 437 feet, bouncing just under the pitch clock above Monty’s Angle in left-center field. Schwarber tipped his helmet to the crowd of 41,609 after rounding the bases.
