Phillies reportedly agree to split deal with Garrett Stubbs

Garrett Stubbs has agreed to a split contract with the Phillies, according to The Athletic’s Matt Gelb. The catcher will make $925,000 in the majors and $575,000 in the minors.

Stubbs, 32, was arbitration eligible for the second time in his career.

The deal doesn’t necessarily mean Stubbs will start the season on the Phillies big league roster. He is out of minor league options. So is Rafael Marchan. If the Phillies re-sign J.T. Realmuto, it’s unlikely both begin the season on the major league roster. Both players would have to clear waivers in order to be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
