It's mid-August, the playoffs are out of reach and Phillies fans are looking to the future. Some of the questions we received this week definitely reflected that.

Do you advocate signing a Justin Upton/Jason Heyward young free agent type?

In short, no. Not yet, at least. While I do think the Phillies could be competing by 2017 if everything goes right, I think heading into the 2016 season – when both of those players will be free agents - is still too early to start signing players for the future before you know exactly which prospects will definitely pan out and I believe that’s more of the approach the front office will end up taking.
