Phillies no-hitter drought remains longest in MLB history

From 1906 to 1964, the Philadelphia Phillies went 8,944 consecutive games without throwing a no-hitter. Then, on Father’s Day — June 21, 1964 — future Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning tossed the first of two perfect games in franchise history, defeating the division-rival New York Mets, 6-0.

There was a growing chance that the San Diego Padres — the only franchise to never toss a no-hitter — could have a longer drought in a few years and end the infamous Phillies stretch.
