The Phillies’ 9-8 series finale loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday was sealed in the 11th inning, when Seth Johnson allowed a two-run homer to Carlos Narváez and the offense couldn’t quite make up the difference, but it was the fifth that will loom the largest going into the off day — and, should thin margins hold in the NL East, longer.
That was when a 5-0 lead disappeared, and then some, continuing a troubling trend for Jesús Luzardo.
Luzardo entered that frame having held the Red Sox hitless, but a Masataka Yoshida double sent everything spiraling.
