Phillies ground their way to loss versus Brewers

PHILADELPHIA — Christian Yelich homered twice, Taijuan Walker struggled to go deep into the game and the Phillies (36-21) couldn’t stop pounding the ball into the ground in a 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers (30-28) on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park.

Brewers right-hander Quinn Priester recorded 18 outs against the Phillies. Sixteen of them came on the ground. The 24-year-old Priester put on a masterclass on how to pitch to the Phillies. He consistently executed pitches down in the zone, and made a well-regarded lineup look silly.

Priester’s 16 ground-ball outs against the Phillies are the second most in an outing for a pitcher this year behind the Giants’ Logan Webb, who got 17 outs on the ground in a 107-pitch outing against the Athletics on May 16.
