SAN DIEGO – With four of the Padres’ top relievers all pitching in back-to-back days and starter Yu Darvish on a pitch limit, the Phillies had an opportunity to bounce back from Friday night’s 4-2 loss.
But Zack Wheeler was not at his best after throwing a complete game for the first time since 2021, and the Phillies could not score against the rest of the Padre bullpen in a 5-4 loss. As a result, the Phillies have dropped their first series at Petco Park since 2018.
Wheeler gave up two home runs for the first time this season.
