Phillies draft pick played role in small-college national championship as freshman

Although Sean Youngerman was announced as a pitcher out of Oklahoma State when he was selected by the Phillies in the fourth round of Major League Baseball’s amateur draft last week, his collegiate career included another, lesser-known stop before he joined the Division I program.

Youngerman first attended Westmont College, where he won an NAIA national title in 2023. Just two years later, his small-college experience has, at least in part, helped lead him to the start of his professional career.

Joey Hanley has worked with Youngerman throughout the journey. As one of the founders and a coach at Fearless Sports Performance, Hanley has trained with Youngerman since the summer before his senior year of high school.
