Phillies clinch bye to NLDS on record-setting night

PHILADELPHIA – The Phillies have clinched a bye to the National League Division Series on a record-setting night.

The offense hit eight home runs, the most in a single game in franchise history, in an 11-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night.

Edmundo Sosa, in his first game back from the injured list, recorded the first multi-home run game of his career. Per The Athletic’s Jayson Stark, he is the first shortstop in Phillies history to hit three home runs in a game.

Kyle Schwarber’s fifth multi-home run game of the season moved him just two home runs shy of Ryan Howard’s Phillies single-season record of 58 home runs.
