The Phillies have claimed left-handed reliever Kevin Siegrist off of waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals. To make room for Siegrist on the 40-man roster the Phillies placed starting pitcher Jerad Eickhoff on the 60-day disabled list.
Eichoff left his last start with numbness in a finger on his pitching hand that will end his season. Eickhoff was the team’s home opening day starter but failed to reclaim his title of club workhorse in 2016.
In his second full season with Philadelphia Eickhoff went 4-8 with a 4.71 ERA in 24 starts over just 128 innings. Walks and a lack of run support were an issue throughout the season for the 27-year-old righty acquired in the Cole Hamels trade three years ago.
