Phillies claim fireballer Robert Stock

It was announced on Thursday that the Phillies claimed hard-throwing RHP, Robert Stock, from the San Diego Padres.

The soon-to-be 30 year-old has averaged ~98 mph on his fastball over the last two years, and features some nasty secondaries, including a biting changeup.

His poor control has been his limiting factor over his time in the MLB — but the stuff is undeniable.

Stock, who still has two Minor League options, is owed the league minimum over the next two years, and can therefore be stashed in Triple-A until further notice.

The Padres presumably let Stock go due to his advanced age, as well as their ever-pressing need to clear 40-man space for the slew of Rule-5 protections they’ll need to make this offseason.
