Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto exits with finger injury; X-rays negative

PHILADELPHIA — Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto was removed from Tuesday night’s 6-5, 11-inning loss to the Marlins after taking a foul ball off his finger. The club announced that he has a bruised right index finger and that Realmuto is considered day-to-day.

“That was quite a blow he took to his finger,” manager Rob Thomson said. “But the X-ray is negative, and we’ll check him out tomorrow.”

With the Phillies up by a run in the top of the ninth inning, Miami’s Heriberto Hernández fouled back a splitter from closer Jhoan Duran. The ball hit Realmuto on the finger on his unprotected throwing hand.
