Phillies capitalize on another catcher’s interference by Red Sox: ‘Just weird, man’

PHILADELPHIA — Two days. Two innings. Two calls for catcher’s interference.

It’s not the most traditional offense, but they’ll take it in South Philadelphia.

The night after the Phillies walked off with a win on Monday after Edmundo Sosa’s bat touched the mitt of Carlos Narváez with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th, they capitalized on another catcher’s interference by the Red Sox backstop in the first inning on Tuesday.

As Bryce Harper attempted a straight steal of home, Narváez hopped out in front of the plate to field the pitched ball. Home-plate umpire Edwin Jimenez immediately ruled it a catcher’s interference, and a quirk in the rules awarded Harper a run and the batter, Brandon Marsh, first base.
