Final: Phillies 5, Nationals 3
The Phillies bullpen stepped up on Friday afternoon, preserving a lead created by some early offensive output against the Washington Nationals.
Connor Brogdon, Seranthony Domínguez and Brad Hand combined for 3 1/3 scoreless innings to close out the first end of a doubleheader, 5-3, at Nationals Park.
Philadelphia went up 2-0 to start the game as Nick Castellanos drove in two with a first-inning double, adding two more in the top of the third on an RBI groundout from Odúbel Herrera and run-scoring double by Alec Bohm. Bohm scored another run in the sixth inning on a Washington error.
