Phillies announce new rotation order for Toronto series

TORONTO — Zack Wheeler was scheduled to start Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays in Toronto. His next start will be pushed back to the Pirates series, as Wheeler’s wife Dominique is due to give birth to the couple’s fourth child soon.

Cristopher Sánchez will now pitch Tuesday instead of Wednesday. Mick Abel’s second major league start has been moved up to Wednesday from Thursday. Jesús Luzardo will start on regular rest Thursday.

Wheeler will likely go on the paternity list beginning Tuesday. That could be the corresponding move that gets Abel back on the major league roster, though the Phillies could also bring up an extra pitcher off the 40-man roster for Tuesday’s game and send him back down on Wednesday for Abel.
