Phillies announce first round of cuts from camp

Following Saturday’s Bryce Harper debut — and an 8-7 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Clearwater — the Phillies announced their first set of options and reassignments from Major League camp.

Infielder Arquimedes Gamboa and starting pitcher Adonis Medina were optioned to Reading. Catcher Deivy Grullon, infielder Malquin Canelo, outfielder-slash-first baseman Austin Listi and left-handed starter JoJo Romero, along with former first-overall-pick outfielder Mickey Moniak, were reassigned to minor league camp. The difference in verbs is a technicality: Gamboa and Medina are on the 40-man roster and had to be optioned off the Major League team, while the rest were in camp as non-roster invitees.
