Phillies fans likely remember Astros shortstop Jeremy Peña. When the Astros defeated the Phillies in the 2022 World Series, he recorded a 1.023 OPS and won the series MVP. But that showing was not representative of his offensive production throughout most of his first three years in the majors. (It’s somewhat galling that he hasn’t hit a postseason home run since 2022, and two of the three series he’s played, his batting average hasn’t topped .200.)
Jeremy Peña hasn’t been bad in 2023 but very average on offense and defense.
