Mets continue dominance over Phillies in Game 1 of doubleheader

Final Score: Mets 8, Phillies 1

Following a series-opening loss Friday, the Philadelphia Phillies hoped for a lengthy start from Zack Wheeler and offensive rebound in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the division-rival New York Mets.

What they got instead was a Mets lineup that nickle-and-dimed Wheeler out of the game after less than six innings, and a pretty feeble performance at the plate.

Wedged in between Michael Perez and Jeff McNeil RBIs Saturday afternoon, Francisco Lindor delivering perhaps the most deflating blow in the form of an RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning that scored Starling Marte:

The Mets were up only 4-1 entering the ninth inning, but pushed four additional runs across against Nick Nelson, assuring that closer Edwin Díaz didn’t have to come in to pitch the ninth.
