While the Phillies swung a difference-making trade for closer Jhoan Duran on Wednesday, the biggest bat on the market will be heading elsewhere.
Third baseman Eugenio Suárez will go from the Diamondbacks back to Seattle, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. The slugger previously played two years for the Mariners before they traded him to Arizona before last season. The trade agreement is pending medical review, Passan reported.
Suárez has 36 home runs and a major-league-leading 87 RBIs in 105 games this season. He would have provided a huge boost with his right-hander power in the middle of the Phillies’ order, but the defensive fit would have been tough.
