Major League Baseball announced it will implement the use of an automated ball-strike challenge system during the 2026 season on Tuesday.

The system, widely known as ABS, will allow players to challenge specific ball or strike calls made by home plate umpires. According to MLB, the system, “uses cameras set up around the perimeter of the field to track the location of each pitch and a graphic on the scoreboard shows the result of the challenge.”

Teams will have two challenges at the start of each game. Teams will lose a challenge if the call is not overturned.
