The Phillies weren’t quite sure why pitching prospect Moisés Chace just wasn’t throwing that hard to start the season. It puzzled those in the organization and the right-hander himself. He had shown to have an electric arm once he came over in a trade with Baltimore last year, but it didn’t always look the same in 2025 after entering the spring behind schedule.
On May 14, Chace may have found out what was contributing to his diminished fastball in a brutal way. He left that day’s start for Double-A Reading early with an elbow injury and is soon scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery in early June.
