October means two things in Major League Baseball: the playoffs and the beginning of awards season. With the Philadelphia Phillies having been eliminated early from the postseason again, all we have to look forward to now are individual awards. On Wednesday, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner were named finalists for the prestigious Silver Slugger Award.
Created by Louisville Slugger in 1980 to honor top offensive performances, MLB managers and coaches cast votes for the Silver Slugger for each position in both leagues. As announced by FanSided, Schwarber is a finalist at the designated hitter position while Turner is one of the top three at shortstop in the National League.
