There’s an alternate, yet somehow less dystopian, universe in which Kyle Schwarber homered in the actual baseball portion of the All-Star Game, maybe even twice, to power the National League to victory, winning MVP — and it may not have been as epic as what actually happened.
Schwarber, summoned in the first ever Swing-Off, launched three homers in as many swings to carry the Senior Circuit to victory in an All-Star Game whose myriad twists and turns all set the stage for one of the wildest Midsummer Classic finishes you’ll ever see.
The format went like this: Three players from each league, three swings per player, with the more potent league breaking the tie and walking away on top.
