NEW YORK – Kyle Schwarber recorded career hit No. 1,000. Of course it was a home run.
With Trea Turner on second, Schwarber crushed a first-pitch fastball into the seats in right-center field to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth. It was his 35th home run of the season. He is on pace to finish the season with 57.
Schwarber’s homer – and Taijuan Walker’s solid 5 2/3 innings – gave the Phillies the chance to put together a big seventh inning.
The Phillies tied the game at 3-3 on a play that was ruled a single, E3.
